A few weeks ago, the Recharge CS team met up in my beautiful “sweet home Chicago” for our annual Customer Success Team Retreat!
Several people arrived early due to various travel arrangements, and I was able to take them on a brief tour of some of the popular tourist destinations. We went to Cloud Gate (aka: “The Bean”), Buckingham Fountain, museum campus – and of course, said hello to my sweet lady, Lake Michigan.
The next day, it was time to hit the ticket queue!
The CS retreats are amazing because they give us the opportunity to all work alongside of one another in a way that we don’t usually get to experience. Instead of having to chat back and forth over Slack to try and get an issue figured out, all you have to do is turn to the person right next to you! It’s a simple luxury that many people that work in office situations take for granted.
While there are hundreds of perks to working remotely and I’d never want to go back to an office job – there is something to be said for having that kind of instant access to help and comradery.
But, of course, it’s not all work and no play! This is a Recharge Retreat, after all! Every day after we finished the queue, we had a special evening of events!
One evening, Pietro prepared his phenomenal mushroom rissotto with special help from his sous chef, Pedro! (Then afterwards, there was board games and just in general hanging out and enjoying getting to know each other better!)
The next night, we went to the top of the Hancock Tower to watch the sunset over Chicago! Afterwards, some people went off for some Chicago style pizza while others ventured to one of the best Chicago blues joints in the city!
And another night, we went to a spy-themed restaurant called the SafeHouse where my dear friend and magician, Johnathan (aka: Agent Enigma), came out to entertain us with his sleight of hand!
Of course, these pictures don’t capture all the laughter and shenanigans and bonding that took place throughout the retreat. At Recharge, I consider myself incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to see these people that I know as ‘family’ twice a year. Not all remote companies have the luxury of being able to provide that. But through our retreats, we grow closer together as people…and thus, we grow closer together as a team.
The most difficult part of the retreat is always the “good-byes” – but today I raise my glass to my Recharge CS family and to a company that continues to allow us to practice our core principles of ownership, empathy and simple solutions every year right alongside of each other.
